MY ROOTS
Spencer Fanticola
Surfing has always been the rock in my life and nothing is worse than when it all crumbles down because of a small ding in my boards inhibiting me from doing what I love. I especially hated the long wait for the board to be repaired so I took matters into my own hands and attempted to do it on my own.
I’ve always been the guy that friends turn to whenever they ding their decks or rails. As a young surfer, I was surprised to hear how much it would cost to repair a simple ding at some of the most popular shops. I thought to myself, why can’t I do this?
Turns out, I could. Armed with an orbital sander, resin, and fiberglass cloth, I fixed my own board, then my friends’ boards, and then their friends’ board. Fast forward to today, and, over the last four years, my garage has become an unofficial repair shop, where I have treated anything from high-performance shortboards to “airplane wing” longboards.
In that time, I’ve repaired dozens upon dozens of boards, letting me constantly do what I love best — getting surfers back on their favorite sticks.
